An Evening with Jimmy
Doolittle, from the Antique Airplane Association, Colorado
Christy Barden Video |
The video presented a question and answer panel made up of Jimmy
Doolittles granddaughter, Joanna Doolittle Hoppes, his son, John
Doolittle, his copilot Dick Cole and the #12 plane (of 16) pilot, Col.
Bill Brown. Daughter Joanna was asked why she wrote the book and she
responded, to clarify who JD really was and to encourage others to
record their wartime/life stories. The panel discussed details of
getting ready for the raid on Japan, the raid itself and the subsequent
events after the raid due to the fact that they had many unscheduled
landings. This was due to the fact that they took off 250 miles further
from Japan than originally planned. Their summary of the results of the
raid was that it was a big encouragement to the American people, the
Japanese emperor found that Japan was not invincible and it changed the
philosophy of the war for the Japanese. |
